A Student Changes His Phone Routine

Last month, I realized that my phone was changing the way I studied. I often picked it up when an assignment became difficult. I told myself that I was taking a short break, but ten or fifteen minutes disappeared very quickly.

I spoke to our learning adviser. She did not tell me to delete every app. Instead, she asked me to notice when and why I checked my phone. For three days, I wrote down each unnecessary check. Most of them happened after a notification or when I felt unsure about the next step in my work.

We made a simple plan. I now turn off social notifications during study time and put the phone inside my bag. I work for twenty-five minutes before I take a planned break. If I feel stuck, I write the problem on paper instead of immediately opening an app.

The plan is not perfect, but it has changed my attention. I still use my phone for class messages and useful tools. The difference is that I choose when to use it. At the end of the week, I review what worked and make one small change for the next week.
